HCGC gets planning

Here are a few images from the hybrid planning application that we submitted on behalf of Hulme Community Garden Centre. We have just found out that the application has been successful, which is great news. The application included change of use of the existing site, full planning permission for a hot and a cold poly tunnel, a covered store and a secure lock up unit. Outline permission was sort for a new shop, a new workshop and a cob office.

Brick by Brick, Loaf by Loaf - CLT Network Awards

The work of local people in Anfield, URBED and Liverpool Biennial, has been recognised by the National Community Land Trust Network. On Tuesday night some of the members of the newly formed ‘Home Baked’ CLT attended the 2012 Community Land Trust Network awards, where they were presented with an award for excellence in community engagement. This was granted in recognition of the long term and in depth work with local young people and residents in 2Up 2Down/ Homebaked, in both the design and the governance of the scheme.

2up 2down Bakery Design Camp + Progress Report

We recently held a design camp to progress the design of the bakery and shop. This involved a brilliant presentation by Franny about her love of vintage design and reclaiming and restoring furniture from French markets! We then split into 3 working group: One for the bakery - this involved all the technical issues to do with ovens and working areas; Another group concentrated on the interior of the shop and how the layout would incorporate space for staff and customers; the last group worked on the exterior of the shop and the window display.

We have been developing a Vision document that sets out the aspirations for “The New Bolton Woods - a thriving village with all its own amenities.” This document sets out URBED's design brief for developing a masterplan for the area. We have started a series of public workshops to engage the community about what they want to see in the new Bolton Woods.

Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign hosts a special presentation. Take a photographic tour of new housing in three Dutch cities and discover how people get around these new developments. Followed by discussion and debate.

MMU Unit X

URBED were commissioned to design a bus tour to show MMU Art students around Manchester. We took in areas of historical and cultural importance as well as less well known sites of interest and explored Manchester's varied urban environments.
