URBED worked with Art Gene, an artists collective based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria to develop their proposals for a series of movable 'pod' buildings on the seafront at Roker, Sunderland. We worked with Art Gene to produce a report which developed the brief for the project and took the designs to the equivalent of RIBA Stage D.
Peter Horrocks of POST was engaged to provide visualisations for the PODS, and Alex Moody of XCO2 energy provided advice on the potential for renewable energy in the mobile buildings.
The pods were manufactured by specialist fabricators, Millimetre, and installed on site in Summer 2013, following a lot of hard work and effort by all involved.
