For this project URBED produced an Illustrative Masterplan, Design & Access Statement and Statement of Community Involvement. These documents formed part of an outline planning application for a site on Weaste Lane in Salford.

The site was the former De La Salle College, which became part of Salford City College in 2009. Following the college's move to Media City, use of the campus on the site came to an end in late 2012.

The client's aspirations for the site were to redevelop it for residential use, and they appointed Planners, Gerald Eve to put together an outline planning application to detail a scheme which would be most appropriate for the site and its setting.

URBED's role was to determine the amount of housing which could be accommodated on the site and design a layout which would reflect our ethos for creating walkable and attractive developments.

The final masterplan, which was put in for outline planning permission in July 2013, illustrates 54 houses on the site with a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties. Each house has a garden and at least one parking space on the street or in curtilage. The layout of the scheme creates two new streets which opens up views to the park and encourages people to walk and cycle, as vehicular access into the site is limited.

Our initial proposals were exhibited at a consultation event in April 2013. Local residents and businesses were invited to comment and give their views on proposals and this feedback directed changes to the masterplan. The purpose of the consultation was to let local people know of the new development in their area and to gain feedback to direct alterations to the masterplan.
