Carbon Co-op training programme

Monday 11th September, 2017

Carbon Co-op have released their new 2017-2018 training programme. Designed to support householders on their energy efficiency and retrofit journey, it includes everything from a beginners guide through to in-depth sessions on ventilation, off-grid power systems and draught-proofing. For dates and costs see the brochure here

URBED's Marianne and Helen developed and run the following courses:

Principles of Retrofit: for developing a better understanding of basic technical principles including heat transfer mechanisms and U-values, properties and application of insulation, thermal mass, air-tightness, and ‘breathability’. It will also help householders to understand key performance risks – cold bridging, leaks, indoor air quality and moisture.

Ventilation for Homeowners: Learn what is good air indoor quality, and how it relates to individual and building health. Plus relevant building regulations, ventilation strategies and technologies.

Heating controls: Learn how to identify different types of control, typical installation costs and suitability, plus advice on appropriate ‘smart’ or remote controls and apps and including practical demonstration/exercises.

Routes to Retrofit: For householders already aware of what improvements they require, and seeking to commission retrofit architects and contractors. The ideal next step after a My Home Energy Planner assessment. Trainees will gain an understanding of the importance of the planning phase and common problems they may encounter.

Retrofit Champions: This two part training sets retrofit within the wider context of action on climate change. Equips participants with an understanding of the part retrofit can play in the creation of a socially just and sustainable future. As well as an understanding of the political context, this training covers the basics of home energy assessments, understanding electricity use and heat loss. This training has been accredited by the Greater Manchester Carbon Literacy Standard.
