Friday 16th January, 2015

An article in the Architect's Journal confirmed today that Architect Mae’s 141-home second phase of the Brentford Lock West development in west London has been granted full planning permission. See the article here.

The scheme, for developer ISIS Waterside Regeneration, also includes new community space and ground-floor commercial buildings. Its new homes will be a mix of four-bedroom town-houses and apartments.

The project forms part of a 520-home masterplan for a 6.4ha site next to the Grand Union Canal, drawn up by Swedish urban designers Tovatt, Klas Tham and Urbed.

Its 150-home first phase was designed by Karakusevic Carson, Riches Hawley Mikhail and Duggan Morris is currently under construction.

Mae partner Alex Ely said ‘Our design takes its cues from the waterways and [the] wharf architecture as well as drawing on characteristics of the nearby conservation area,’ .

‘We are excited about now taking it forward to construction and adding our bit to this great development.”

ISIS development director Katie Sully said the firm had always intended to employ a range of architects for the scheme’s different phases ‘to ensure architectural diversity’.

Karakusevic Carson, Riches Hawley Mikhail and Duggan Morris were selected for the first phase after winning a 2011 design competition.
