URBED with the Matrix Partnership were appointed by South Somerset District Council and the Yeovil Vision to assess the feasibility of developing an urban village to ‘ecotown’ standards on land owned by the Council and used for parking on the edge of the town centre. The Commission included devising and consulting on a number of options for the masterplan. The Council welcomed and endorsed the masterplan and are taking it a stage further by assessing alternative sites for replacement car parking. The Draft Summerhouse Village Masterplan final report shows how building several hundred homes to eco town standards can help diversify the town centre and improve links with the adjoining country park. The report is based on a series of technical studies by URBED, the Matrix Partnership, Addison Associates, and King Sturge (now Jones Lang Lasalle) together with consultative workshops.
