Built on the research and ideas developed by URBED and partners on Alpha House, part of the Manchester International Festival, the biosphere at Manchester College demonstrates emerging indoor growing techniques. The fitout of the biosphere was undertaken by our friends Biomatrix and integrates aquaculture, vermiculture, and hydroponics.
The project has recently won a national PACE Award for Environmental Sustainability in partnership with The Manchester College. PACE awards are open to individuals, departments, schools and colleges that have introduced outstanding learning initiatives or techniques over the last 12 months.

As part of the origional team URBED, helped secure a grant of £1,000,000 from the BIG Lottery Fund, for an ambitious five-year programme to engage and excite the people of Wythenshawe in growing and cooking fresh, sustainable food. We also assisted with the concept design and procurement of the biosphere. For more information on Alpha Farm click here
