In 2007 URBED were commissioned by Ashfield District Council to masterplan the long term future of Hucknall town centre over the next 15-20 years.

The masterplan built upon the extensive study work that had been done so far on Hucknall and the wider Ashfield area to provide a spatial framework and clearer path towards Hucknall's future development and role within Ashfield.

The aim of the masterplan was to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the town centre, to identify development opportunities, to create a vision for the future and to map out a strategy to get there. In doing this the masterplan sets out a vision for Hucknall as a good place to shop, work, visit and live in order to increase the viability of the town centre and to attract long term investment.

The masterplan has undergone various stages of consultation, including a walkabout session with local ward members and community representatives, a Roundtable stakeholder event aimed to develop a range of priorities for action and options for development, and a general public consultation event which asked for comments on specific proposals.

URBED worked with Gordon Hood Regeneration who provided commercial market analysis and Simon Fenton Partnership Limited who supplied costing for the proposed masterplan.
