Alas this bid was unsuccessful. The masterplan and sustainability strategy was prepared as part of a bid to English Partnerships by the Manchester-based developer P.J. Livesey to purchase the Fair Mile Hospital in South Oxfordshire.

The bid was drawn up by URBED working with Landscape Projects and S333 architects. The former mental hospital was designed in the 19th century to be self sufficient with its own farm, gas works and well. This was built on as part of the masterplan to create a potentially self-sufficient community with a bio-mass fuelled communal heating system, a model farm, allotments and its own well and waste treatment works.
