URBED were selected by CABE to carry out eight Building for Life assessments and two detailed case studies in support of the 2008 awards. The assessments required a high level of familiarity with the Building for Life assessment criteria. For each case study we reviewed plans and material submitted by the developer/architect and carried out a site visit. Our scores for each scheme, together with a supporting design critique, were presented to the judging panel and used as the basis for the final short listing.
Once the final selection had been made, URBED were requested to take a look at the winners and prepare in-depth case study critiques. The full Building For Life testing criteria can be viewed here. URBED reviewed two of the winners – the Sinclair Building in Sheffield and Rostron Brow in Stockport. Other projects that were reviewed as part of the earlier stages include: Budenberg Project in Altrincham, Fulwood Park in Preston, Mowbray Park Sunderland, Quayside Lofts- Newcastle, Netherhall Park – Walsall, Islington Square – Manchester and Westowe Crown Village – South Shields.
