Bermondsey Square is a mixed use scheme in Southwark, central London, located on a site where Bermondsey Street and Tower Road meet. The scheme comprises three blocks which define the mix of uses - a hotel, apartments and offices – together with ground floor retail and community uses.
The three main blocks are arranged around an improved Bermondsey Square, which will continue to host the famous Bermondsey antiques market, alternating with a proposed farmers market. In addition there is an ‘island’ site located across Tower Road which provides for a fourth block. Development of this site as social housing is the subject of a Section 106 agreement.
The scheme was initially to be developed with forward funding by specialist developer Urban Catalyst, but Igloo formally took over direct development of the scheme in 2005. It will be Igloo’s first completed new-build residential scheme.
