The Selby Renaissance project was the last of Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Towns Initiatives. The project covered the town of Selby and two other towns in the district, Sherburn and the historic brewing centre of Tadcaster. URBED were appointed in autumn 2004 and worked with the three Town Teams to prepare a Charter for the district that was published in September 2005 and launched at a festival in Selby Abbey.
The second stage of the project was to prepare a Strategic Development Framework with setting out the projects required to implement the strategy. The SDF was published in October 2006 and included masterplans for each of the towns plus thematic plans covering Water (because flooding is a major issue in the district), Energy (because it has three of the country's largest power stations) and Business.
