ABC of Housing Growth and Infrastructure
Wednesday 5th February, 2014
The Housing Forum has released a report based on a series of seminars and new case studies of major housing schemes.
The nine case studies show that the UK can now build excellent large housing schemes, but only where there is ongoing support from the public sector. Furthermore neither the scale or pace match up to what is required. Hence the Housing Forum is suggesting ways of boosting local leadership, and the three qualities of Ambition, Brokerage and Continuity that seem to underlie successful schemes.
The report recommends introducing Local Investment Agreements to follow up City Deal negotiations, using public land as equity to get major schemes going, and setting up a national investment bank to channel private funds into local infrastructure.
