Options for Stafford

For those of you who won't be able to make our exhibition in Stafford on Saturday 26th July, you can view our 8 exhibition boards online under downloads >

The boards identify three possible options for the area around the Guildhall and detail various projects which we think could benefit the town centre.

We Are Here to Stay

Jeanne van Heeswijk and Britt Jurgensen have written an article summarising this project. URBED's Marianne explains her involvement at the start of this great video which gives a fantastic overview of the project.

Stafford Town Centre Roundtable Workshop

Ouseburn Festival 2014

We had a great time in the sun at this year's Ouseburn festival! We presented the mixed-use scheme for Lower Steenberg's Yard, for which a planning application will be submitted later this year. We also presented some initial ideas for Malmo Quay. Four architects have been selected through a design competition ran by Northern Architecture. They are Mikhail Riches (main residential block), Featherstone Young (mixed-use residential and commercial units below), AWP (a new cycle hub), and Feix Merlin (restaurant/ cafe)

Contact secures Arts Council funding

Tuesday 1st July, 2014

The theatre, which focuses on involving young people at every level, has been awarded provisional Stage 1 capital funding (£3.85 million). URBED provided an initial feasibility study and proposed options for changes to the existing building as part of the bid. As part of the design work we involved young people, staff and users of the theatre.

Nicholas Falk launches proposals for a Municipal Investment Corporation

Wednesday 4th June, 2014

On June 4th at the TCPA, Nicholas launched his Smith Institute pamphlet at the TCPA. He  proposes a Municipal Investment Corporation to channel pension fund and other patient money into the infrastructure that new settlements require. Infrastructure bonds will enable private wealth to be invested in building new homes, not just buying existing ones. The pamphlet draws on case studies of state investment banks in France, Germany and the Netherlands.

Thursday 29th May, 2014

We are delighted that a press conference in London this morning announced URBED has been shortlisted for the 2014 Wolfson Economic Prize. As you may recall the prize was launched at the end of last year seeking answers to the question; ‘How would you deliver a new garden city which is visionary, economically viable, and popular’.
