Rob Thompson

Rob is a consultant Urban Designer with his own practice Rob Thompson Urbanism with whom we regularly collaborate. Rob has over 20 years professional experience in Local Government, Development Agencies and the Private Sector.

He has a strong interest in the emotional experience attached to place, and in how this can be influenced by design.

Rob has a longstanding working relationship with Sheffield School of Architecture, where he has been a Studio Tutor and undertaken reviews.

Rob studied for a Masters in Urban Design at Sheffield Hallam University where he passed with Distinction.

Rob's experience includes working as part of Sheffield City Council's Urban Design and Conservation Team, providing design advice on development in the city and acting as the urban design lead on a range of key projects, including the £17M Sheffield Market. Rob also managed the city's Design Panel and lead on the development of Urban Design policy. Rob also recently led on the production of the Residential Quality Guide for Manchester City Council, and has worked on a range of Masterplans for Belfast City Council. 

He is the co author of 'Urbanism' along with David Rudlin and Sarah Jarvis, a compendium of 75 places shortlisted by the Academy of Urbanism.
