Jason Crouch

Jason provides I.T. support and training for the URBED office. He is a freelance artist and digital consultant, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Institute for Performance Research at Manchester Metropolitan University. He works extensively with Contact theatre, encouraging and exploring digital innovation. His research investigates technologically-mediated intimacy in a landscape characterised by the rapid change and mass adoption of new communications tools and platforms. The research is practice led, and involves the development of one-to-one mediated performance, using text messaging, social media and telepresence systems.

He has worked in theatre and the performing arts for over twenty years; producing large outdoor site-specific work, writing and producing his own plays, collaborating with companies and individual artists as dramaturg and technical designer. Over the past five years he has teamed up with Contact Theatre in Manchester and Culturehub, NYC to create multi-sited telepresence projects embracing simultaneous performance, dance and music with artists and participants across the globe. His role at Contact combines both strategic input in the theatre’s digital strategy and various technical specialisms in streaming, telepresence, networks and multimedia/AV.
